Year 2 blog:
Year 2 have had a wonderful start to the new year, full of smiles and hard work. The children have been showing great resilience in their maths learning, where they have been working with money. They have been learning all about the different coins they may come across in their day-to-day lives, as well as different ways they can use these coins to make amounts. At the end of their topic, Year 2 became a shop. They were able to use their previous learning of addition and subtraction to ‘buy’ different items and find the correct change for their friends.
In writing, Year 2 have become entrepreneurs! They have been inspired by How to Catch a Star to design a machine that will catch them their very own star. They have been able to problem-solve and be creative to design the best machine in the galaxy. Year 2 have learnt how to exaggerate, use rhetorical questions and choose appropriate adjectives to create a persuasive advert to sell their machine. Each machine has something unique and special, which all the children have captured in their writing.
In DT, Year 2 have been exploring different winding mechanisms in toys. They have enjoyed discovering that their childhood toys have mechanisms that allow them to move. Year 2 have even been able to make links between their learning and the toys they have at home. They have learnt all about the structure and stability of winding mechanisms and have begun to build their own. The children have designed a purposeful children’s toy based on their favourite nursery rhyme. They cannot wait to apply their skills to their toys.
