School Place Applications

Please note that Bitterne Park primary School does not have it's own pre-school.
The pre-school onsite is a privately run pre-school and is not part of Bitterne Park Primary. This means that children attending the pre-school do not get higher priority in accessing placements at Bitterne Park Primary School in Year R. All places are allocated according to the SCC Admissions policy.

Pupil Premium:

Pupil Premium children eligible for funding, through the Pupil Premium Grant, will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals.

The range of provision the school may include:

  • small group work to focus on overcoming gaps in learning

  • 1:1 support

  • opportunities through trained TAs or external agencies to promote emotional wellbeing and resilience which in turn impacts on learning

  • acquiring effective materials and methods aimed at raising standards, particularly in reading and mathematics.

All our work through the Pupil Premium Grant is directed towards ensuring children meet at least age related expectations and to supporting their emotional wellbeing. The impact of the use of the Pupil Premium Grant is reported at governing body meetings and the governors monitor its use closely to ensure it is being used effectively to raise standards for disadvantaged children.

We publish information on how we have used our Pupil Premium Grant to address the issue of ‘narrowing the gap’. Please see our most up to date information below.

The safety and well being of our children is our highest priority at all times. We have a range of safeguarding measures in place and robust child protection procedures.

As a school we have a responsibility to inform children and family services if we have concerns about the welfare and safety of a child in our school.  We  ensure the protection of children through:

  • A SAFE ENVIRONMENT: for children where they can learn and develop

  • RAISING AWARENESS: give children the knowledge they need to stay safe

  • ROBUST PROCEDURES: to identify and report suspected abuse

  • SUPPORTING CHILDREN: in line with their Child Protection Plan in cases of abuse

  • SAFE RECRUITMENT: based on a system of both DBS and employment checks

For your child’s safety we ask all visitors to ensure they enter through the main entrance to the school and report to a member of the office staff, signing into the visitors’ log and receiving a visitors’ badge if required.

Additional support for learning

Bitterne Park Primary School is determined to develop independent, resilient and robust learners through high quality teaching delivered by the class teacher.

Where additional targeted support would be beneficial the school will make use of internal resources where available – e.g. from our specialist Teaching Assistant team, non-class based teachers. All support is prioritised to support children with the highest level of need.

If your child needs any further support we may seek support from outside agencies or apply for an Education, Health and Care Plan. If you would like more information about this please visit:

https://www.southampton.gov.uk/localoffer

Sports Premium:

The government provides additional funding to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is referred to as the Sports Premium and is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The school can choose how we use the funding in order to . The link below provides some guidance on how the funding should be spent.

Possible uses for the funding might include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE

  • Supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional 'Change-4-Life' clubs

  • Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport

  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport

  • Running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games

  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport

  • Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs

  • Pooling the additional funding with that of other local schools.

Below you will find details of how much we received this school year for sports premium and the breakdown of how we plan to use it to benefit our children.
