Year 1 blog:
Writing
In writing this half term, we have been creating persuasive character descriptions based on our Superveggies. We read the story of Supertato and created our own super vegetable to take on and defeat the Evil Pea.
Maths
In maths this half term, we have been learning about multiplication (repeated addition) and division (sharing). We have also been learning about fractions and finishing half of an object, shape and quantity.
Science
This half term’s science has all been focused around plants and planting. The children have learnt about the difference between garden and wild flowers whilst recapping the names of the parts of a flowering plant and have also learnt the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees. They had great fun going out into our school environment and surveying the different trees and wildflowers in the school grounds. Some children are getting very good at recognising well-known trees from their leaves! We also made final observations of the plants that we grew from seed in the spring before they were planted outside and have planted some quick-growing salad crops to observe over the remainder of the year.
History
In History this term, we are learning all about The Wright Brothers. They invented the first aeroplane. We have learnt that they were very resilient and determined as they accepted failure and saw it as a learning curve to progress further with their inventions. We also learnt about how aeroplanes have evolved over time due to technology advances.
DT
We have started our new DT topic for this half term, Structures. During this unit, we have been creating castles using recycled materials. We have investigated how we can use different materials to create our castles. We can’t wait to create our final piece later this term.
