School Council blog:
Who we are and what we do
We are the School Council and we work together to make our school a better place for everyone, ensuring that all voices are heard and that we are actively involved in shaping our school community. We are passionate about improving our school, local and global community. This year we welcome Ruby, Albert, Robyn, Arlo, Huey, Lois, Layla, Bethany, Ayda, Charlie, Grace, Clara, Ivy, Louis, Reuben, Olivia, Alan, Jayda, Olivia, Isabella, Emily, Malik, Maddie, Theo, Edward, Stella, Maisie, Noah, Alex, Cass, Arwen and George.
Our work thus far
The previous school council took part in a Partnership School Council Summit to share our work with our other partnership schools. Ensured each class has a ‘School Council Suggestions’ box to share the ideas of all of our peers. We discussed school dinners and packed lunches and completed a survey within our classes to ensure we created our school dinner menus that had everyone’s views taken into consideration. This means we are able to look at the uptake of Free School Meals and ensure that everyone who can have one has options that they enjoy.
What’s our short term (1 year) and long term plan (3-5 year) for change?
We have been continuing the work of our previous school council and aiming to improve school lunches. We are now focussing on food waste and how we can use this waste to improve our soil and create our own compost to help during our Eco lessons.
We have been researching a global charity that we would like to support as a whole school. We have presented our charities within the school council and have narrowed the charities down to five. We are planning posters and presentations to share the charities with the rest of the school, there will then be a vote. The charity with the most votes will be our charity for the year, we are excited to work with an organisation linked to our Global Goals.
We will be working within School Parliament this year, where we work collaboratively with the other pupil leadership groups. This parliament will be to ensure all leadership groups have a clear vision and can support each other to make our goals a reality.
