Eco blog:

Hidden within our school grounds, unseen by the majority of people most of the time, is a wonderful and biodiverse natural world waiting to be discovered.

Within the polytunnels alone, we have seen an incredible increase in insects and other creatures, attracted by the plentiful nectar, flowers and abundance of other bugs.

Wonderful spider webs have appeared, while bees, butterflies and moths grace us with their presence as they busily go about their important role in our ecosystem.

Hidden within these pictures, you may be able to spot a cricket nestled amongst the dry grass, a mouse hiding in the shade of some leaves, a spider enjoying its lunch, and bees feasting on the flowers.

One of our favourite activities outdoors during our ECO sessions has been bug hunting and exploring our wildlife. The children have started to learn how all of our creatures connect in the natural world and provide important roles within our ecosystem.

It is always lovely to to slow down and take a look around at what there is living around us. As one pupil noted "Miss Whettingsteel, the bumble bees have different coloured bottoms".

What insects and wildlife can you spot around you? Maybe you could make a bee drinking station or a bug hotel in your garden.
