Eco blog:
This week has been all about the animals on our site and we have made such lovely progress. Despite the weather, we have been very busy outdoors!
Year 5 and 6 spent a day in the Sensory Garden and successfully created our first Frog Pot, a special home for frogs that we hope will move into our pond. It gives them a cosy place to shelter when they want to be out of the water. They had to dig a hole in the ground, layer it with bricks, sticks and then cover with grass.
Year 3 and 4 took on the big task of upgrading our pond. Unfortunately, this was needed after objects were thrown into it. The children emptied the pond, replaced the large stones to create new levels, repositioned the plants and then refilled it. They also decided a small natural fence would help keep onlookers a safe distance from the edge. “I love that it’s made of natural resources!”, one Year 4 pupil remarked. They should all feel very proud of the final result. We also repaired our hedgehog house and improved its entrance!
Year 1 and 2 helped finish planting the remaining spring bulbs. Even with wind and rain, they were out on the field, some a little unsure at first, but once they were in their wellies and waterproofs, they had a wonderful, active session. They also got to see what the other groups had created in the Sensory Garden.
