Year 1 blog:
Writing
We had an exciting start to our English topic. We have been asked by Supertato to create a new Veggie hero! The children were very excited to make their Superveggies each with a unique super power. We will be writing a persuasive character description about our Superveggies, hoping to be chosen by Supertato to join forces to defeat the Evil Pea.
Maths
In maths this term, we are learning all about multiplication and division. So far, we’ve been looking at skip-counting by 2s and 10s by using our hundred squares to spot the pattern when we are skip-counting. Using different resources around the classroom, we have been representing groups of 2s and 10s. Later in the term, we will be looking at grouping and sharing different resources.
Science
This term, our focus is all on plants and planting. We will recap the parts of flowering plants as we learn about the similarities and differences between garden and wildflowers, including those in our local environment. We will also focus on the parts of trees and the differences between deciduous and evergreen trees, again looking at those we can find in our school area. We will make some further observations and measurements of the plants that we grew in the Spring term and plant some more fast-growing seeds for comparison.
History
In history this term, we are learning all about The Wright Brothers. They are remembered for inventing and flying the first aeroplane. We will be learning that they were very resilient and determined as they accepted failure and saw it as a learning curve to progress further with their inventions. We will also be learning about how aeroplanes have evolved over time due to technological advances.
DT
We have started our new DT topic for this half term, Structures. During this unit, we are going to be creating castles using recycled materials. We are really looking forward to investigating how we can use different materials to create our castles. We cannot wait to create our final piece later this term.
