Year 4 Blog Post Update
Year 4 have made a super start to the academic year! Below is a short summary to celebrate some examples of immense hard work this term.
In our English topic, we have been focusing on the comic themed story ‘My Brother is a Superhero’ by David Solomons. We have explored how to keep the reader shocked and entertained, as a mysterious superhero saves the local town from an out of control vehicle.
“In ‘My Brother is a Superhero’ we have been learning about how Star Lad saved the day. For us to be successful, we needed to describe a setting that makes it seem like a normal day. However, a terrible disaster then happens.”- Isaac 4S
In science this half term, we have been learning about electricity. We now know what a circuit is and the essential components within a continuous circuit. We used correct symbols to create diagrams of circuits and tested different materials to see if they were conductors or insulators. We were very lucky to have University of Southampton student teachers put on a special session, where we fixed incomplete circuits. We are enjoying this practical topic!
“We’ve learnt about how a continuous circuit works. This includes the equipment used to make it successful. We have also learnt about conductors, insulators and how to stay safe using electricity.” - Chloe 4S
In our maths lessons, we have been learning different multiplication strategies. We have enjoyed exploring the concept, finding out new and efficient times table strategies, as well as formal written methods of multiplication. Year 4 have also been working exceptionally hard in problem solving this half term, as we have explored the comparative bar model.
“We have learnt a lot of working strategies such as grid multiplication. We have practised this a lot by working through chilli challenges.” – Joshua 4H
