After a successful trial, we proudly took a group of children specially selected from year 3 and 4 to represent the school in this tournament. The children adapted well, following lunchtime training sessions, to a new sport with a range of complex rules to learn. The results below will show you how the team gelled quickly, defended with discipline and showed impact and pace to score tries. With a 100% record from the group stages, the team progressed into the quarter-finals.
Bitterne Park 2-0 Ludlow
Bannister 2-4 Bitterne Park
Bitterne CofE 0-4 Bitterne Park
St Marks B 0-7 Bitterne Park
Bitterne Park 2-1 Mansel Park
In this game, we scored two very quick tries and looked to continue our high scoring run from the group stages. However, at this stage of a competition things step up a level and the extra edge was shown by a brilliant comeback and determination from the opposition. With strong defending, our team was able to limit the opposition to a conciliatory try and progress to the semis.
Bitterne Park 1-3 Holy Family
Holy Family showed from early on the dangers they had on the break and were clearly a quality side. Our amazing children broke early to take the lead and despite going on to lose, showed on numerous occasions the ability to match the outstanding opposition we faced.
3rd place playoff
Bitterne Park (AET)3-2 St Marks A
In what was a thrilling playoff for the bronze medals both sides showed the qualities that had got them so far. It was an end to end match which could only be decided in extra time with the next try to win. We broke excellently to seal the bronze medals.
Well done to our tag rugby side, it has been amazing to see so many of you proudly wearing your medals in school in the days following this event!
