As a school we are proud to have been represented at the Hampshire Games for two years running. This year it was the turn of our year 3/4 gymnasts who headed up to Aldershot Garrison to represent Southampton following their excellent 2nd place in the city tournament in January.
The children performed exceptionally showing grace, elegance and muscle in the different routines they performed in. During the vault, the children showed both power to land onto the beam and then fantastic poise when walking along before finishing with a graceful landing. Body management gave the children a chance to show their core muscle skills in holding a range of different positions. Finally, the floor exercises saw the children showing their coordination and style in completing a pre-rehearsed routine- several of the cartwheels and rolls on show were excellent. One of the most challenging elements of such a competition is not just showing gymnastic excellence but remembering all of the different steps- it was fantastic to see how all of the children had taken the routine home and practised it.
A special thank you needs to be mentioned to Miss Strand, who agreed to work with the children outside of her normal working hours.
A special well done must be said to William after his bronze medal for his overall individual score.
All of the children involved performed admirably against the best of the best from our county. Well done to Kacie, Bluebell, Blessing, Bethany, Lily, Libby, Alfie, Alex, Bobby, William, Kody and TJ.
