Following the girls's victory in the Southampton competition the girls participated in these finals.
Bitterne Park 1-2 St Mary's
The girls broke up play effectively in the opening minutes of the game only for St Mary's to find their stride. Ella replied to an early strike to level the scores before St Mary's scored a 2nd to win the game.
Bitterne Park 0-0 Gomer
This game was dominated by the girls extra steel in defence and midfield led primarily by Mollie. Leyla felt she had scored only for the referee to announce that it had gone in via the side netting. A dominant display from the girls.
Bitterne Park 0-0 Sarisbury
The girls created plenty of chances in this game, with Leyla proving to be the pinnacle of the attack. A little bit of extra luck would have converted this into an easy win.
Bitterne Park 0-0 Velmead
Playing against the eventual winners of the finals, the girls showed extra fluidity and synergy up front- only for several last ditch tackles to stop them from winning this. This was to be the only game Velmead didn't win and several of their fans (and also manager) commented that we were the best team they'd played.
Bitterne Park 1-0 Herne
The girls' increased tempo in attack was shown in this game with Leyla and Amy leading the attacking charge. Macy and Isobel found themselves in great positions only to be denied by last ditch tackles. This resolute performance from the opposition keeper was broken down by a shot which was far too hot for the keeper to handle and spilled into the back of the net (leading to the first victory of the morning).
Bitterne Park 2-1 Flying Ball
This game had all the makings of a local derby (they were the Portsmouth champions) with end to end attacks. Ella shot was dramatically saved by the keeper, subsequently falling to Leyla outside the box who powerfully slotted home. Leyla doubled the advantage later on, again combining with Ella to double the lead. The girls held firm when the opposition scored and held onto the win.
Bitterne Park 1-0 Stoke Park
This was another strong defensive performance from the team, which Katie and Martha commanded from the back. Macy followed her first shot in after the keeper had saved it to score her first goal for the school and secure victory.
Bitterne Park 2-0 Lanes End
A fourth victory on the trot secured what had been a great morning for the girls. A great save from Ella's shot was finished by Leyla. Macy was desperately unlucky to double her tally for the morning with a great shot before Amy looped a shot over the keeper from a corner. The clean sheet was kept secure by a last ditch tackle from Martha.
Overall, the girls played 9 games, winning 4 and drawing 7. Payton's communication in goal kept things safe: their strength in defence was shown by only conceding a miserly 3 goals across the morning. This resulted in a final placing of 3rd place within a county level tournament. Well done Girls!
