Girls 6 a side tournament

Girls 6 a side tournament

A promising season was predicted for the girls and this afternoon couldn't have gone much better with some great teamwork easing the girls through the group stages. Isobel and Katie were strong additions to the side and throughout the afternoon showed a growing tactical nous. Leyla was on top form and scored the majority of the goals for the team with some dangerous dribbling and clinical finishing. Ella was her usual self charging through the midfield creating chances for both herself and her team mates. Amy showed her pace several times on the wing which was supplemented with several goals. Martha and Mollie held things firm at the back, which gave Macy very little to do in goal- although when she did she showed stability to keep the ball out of the net (only one goal was conceded by Bitterne during the whole tournament).

Semi Final

Bitterne Park 2-0 Foxhills

The extra quality from the opposition in this game and the girls had to work hard to win this. Clinical finishing from Leyla and Amy made the game safe alongside some determined team defending to keep the lead safe.

Bitterne Park 1-0 Townhill

As you would expect from a final, this was the toughest game of the tournament. A goal in the first half from Ella gave the girls the lead. Although the girls created several chances a determined Townhill defence kept the score down. The last part of the game saw an onslaught from Townhill which the girls defended brilliantly against.

What a fantastic start for the girls to achieve being champions of Southampton- next up for them is a tournament against the the champions across Hampshire.
