Year 1

Year 1's Big Help out - What a day!

We started with a walk around school discussing what we love, value and respect most about our planet. We then spoke about how we can 'help out' to make our school community even more beautiful.

We read the story - Our Plant, There is no place like earth and then drew and created our happy Earth, thinking about how we can make the earth and those living on it smile.

We then wrote a letter to Steve Backshall with our plan!

It was time to put our plans into action!

Year 1 decided we needed to grow more flowers, to attract bees and other minibeast wildlife. 1M planted Calendula Fruit Twists, 1P planted Marigolds, 1A planted Poppies and 1H planted Nasturtiums.  We also decorated our plant pots with our key message and vision for our planet.

Finally we ended the day with a focus on the RSPB. We carried out a bird watch to see how many birds we have in our local area and of the different species. We then created some bird feeders to take home and observe the different birds that would like to have a snack.

We hope you like our 'Big Help Out' efforts.  A big thanks goes to Mrs Smith and Mrs Spencer for their donations to help us with our efforts today.
