Kwick Cricket Tournament

Wednesday 19th June 2018 Kwik Cricket Tournament

This was a fantastic day during which the children behaved in a way which clearly embodied the Olympic value of friendship. The children congratulated each other, celebrated appropriately (without upsetting the other team) and set up practise sessions between games independently. Furthermore, one of the other team manager's commented on how well our children communicated with each other to arrange fielding positions. It was also fantastic to see how the team developed; several of our children had never played in a real game of cricket before- which didn't show by the end.

Group stages

Bitterne Park 197-8 v Townhill A 225-4 (LOSS)

After a strong performance in the field, we showed real promise in chasing down the total set for us. Although we fell away towards the end, this was a promising start for Team Bitterne.

Springhill B 249-3 v Bitterne Park 211-7 (LOSS)

This was a challenging game against several players who played for teams outside of school. Despite the loss, it was lovely to see the improvement in batting from our side.

Bitterne Park 284-4 v Shirley 263-4 (WIN)

During this game, it became clear how well the team had jelled, which was shown by the great communication during batting to gain those extra runs. In the field we were able to keep a strong batting side away from our enormous total (which we were awarded 2 bonus points for).

After a group stages we qualified into the quarter finals due to a strong 3rd place finish.

Bitterne Park 222-2 v Bassett Green 216-6 (WIN)

This was our strongest performance of the day. Great fielding and clinical catching meant we were able to restrict Basset Green to a low total. The children took a cautious approach in the final overs to ensure we were able to keep our runs total higher than theirs. (5 runs were lost if someone got out.)

This great win, against a 1st place from another group, meant we made it to the semi finals.

231-6 Bitterne Park St Monica 284-2 (LOSS)

Our late resurgence was finally undone by a real class side. Despite the loss, the children should be proud of our total against a very tight fielding and bowling side.

This resulted in a very impressive 3rd place for Bitterne Park!!!!
